Amethyst
Amethyst diamond ring

Amethyst gemstone is a common form of transparent and crystallized quartz.

It is usually purple, but can range in color from pale lavender to a very deep purple. It may have milky white or green inclusion. Deeper-colored amethysts are more highly valued.

The name comes from Greek and means "not drunk". This comes from the belief that if you wear Amethyst, it would prevent from becoming drunk.

The amethyst is said to bring good luck and to radiate love. It is the birthstone for February.

Oriental amethyst, also called purple sapphire, is not quartz but a variety of corundum

Green amethyst: see Prasiolite
